| Fuel | Reported reference on 1 September | Reported change |
|---|---|---|
| Diesel | MAD 15.01/litre | +MAD 0.06/litre |
| Petrol | MAD 14.94/litre | Unchanged |
Kech24 also reports diesel moving above MAD 15. The two reports support the adjustment but do not establish identical prices across all brands and cities. Station photographs illustrate the distribution network; their signs are not September 2026 price observations.
What does a tank cost?
These examples use MAD 15.01 per litre without discounts. The extra cost isolates the six-centime adjustment from the previous MAD 14.95 reference.
| Diesel volume | Calculated cost | Extra from MAD 0.06/litre |
|---|---|---|
| 30 litres | MAD 450.30 | MAD 1.80 |
| 40 litres | MAD 600.40 | MAD 2.40 |
| 50 litres | MAD 750.50 | MAD 3.00 |
A vehicle using six litres per 100 km needs 60 litres for 1,000 km: MAD 900.60 at the reference price, including MAD 3.60 attributable to this adjustment. Actual consumption varies with the vehicle, load, traffic and route.
Comparing Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat
We do not have a dated set of receipts that would support a reliable comparison between stations in these cities on 5 September. Assigning a precise price to each would imply local measurements that were not made. Compare the same fuel on the same day and check the displayed price before filling up.
A detour can erase a saving. A discount of MAD 0.10 on 40 litres saves MAD 4; if the extra journey burns more than that, the cheaper pump offers no saving. Record litres, unit price, total, station and date to track spending accurately.
Why pump prices change
Costs depend on imported refined products, the dollar exchange rate, freight, storage, taxes and distribution. Brent is a crude-oil benchmark, so it cannot directly determine the retail price of diesel. Purchase timing and inventories can delay the transmission of international changes.
The Competition Council monitors this relationship in its sector reports. A distributor’s adjustment is not a uniform state-set tariff. Our outlook for the next possible price change separates market scenarios from confirmed adjustments.
Household and transport costs
Fuel increases directly affect the cost of driving. Their effect on a delivery, ticket or food product is not identical to the percentage increase at the pump: fuel accounts for only part of the final cost. Ask how a revised quote was calculated instead of applying the pump-price increase to an entire bill.
