Two national participation benchmarks surpassed
The 44 medals exceed Morocco’s 33 at Oran 2022 by 11. The gold tally also surpasses the previous benchmark from Tarragona 2018: 16 titles compared with ten, an increase of six. These records concern Morocco’s Mediterranean Games medal haul, not world performance records.
CNOM puts the historical total at 322 medals since Morocco first participated in 1959. That cumulative figure must be distinguished from the result of this single edition.
Athletics contributes 16 medals
Between 30 August and 3 September, Moroccan athletics collected seven golds, four silvers and five bronzes. Its 16 medals form part of the national total of 44, rather than representing the whole delegation’s result.

CNOM reports a 2.8 m/s headwind for Hssine’s 100 m final and identifies Birdaha’s 5,000 m time as a personal best. Other times are not automatically labelled national records here without explicit ratification.
Double champions Hssine and Birdaha carried Morocco’s flag at the closing ceremony. The men’s steeplechase produced a Moroccan one-two, with Mohamed Tindouft second in 8:46.58 behind Ben Yazide.
Ten sports reach the podium
Alongside athletics, boxing, tennis, karate, taekwondo, judo, gymnastics, equestrian sport, football and wrestling contributed medals. The result therefore extends beyond the distance-running events traditionally associated with Moroccan sporting success.
The Royal Moroccan Equestrian Federation confirms team bronze in show jumping. The team comprised Ali Al Ahrach, Abdeslam Bennani Smires, El Ghali Boukaa and Abdelkebir Ouaddar. A team medal counts once in the national table, not once per rider.
Anass Essayi adds 1,500 m bronze in 3:43.20, according to CNOM’s results.
Interpreting the result
Overall rank, total medals and gold medals measure different things. Seventh place does not mean that only six delegations won more podium places: the official ranking and a simple medal-total ordering are not interchangeable.
Comparing editions also requires considering the sports programme and participating athletes. The improved medal haul is established; on its own it does not predict Olympic or world championship results.
